About Tugboat Films
Tugboat Films was founded in 2022 by Minghan Chen, born from a lifelong fascination with storytelling and a romantic idea of what advertising could be. Inspired in part by the world portrayed in Mad Men—where a single idea, image, or line could reshape how people saw a brand—Minghan set out to build a company where cinematic craft and creative strategy could live under the same roof. Today, Tugboat Films creates commercials, campaigns, and digital content for brands ready to make their next leap: to stand apart, shape culture, command attention, and ultimately become leaders in their category.

We Start With the Why, Not the Camera.
Our approach begins long before production. We look at the brand, the audience, the platform, and the role each piece of content needs to play within the larger marketing ecosystem. From there, strategy informs the idea, the idea informs the creative, and the creative informs the production. The result is work that isn’t simply beautifully made, but deliberately designed—each frame, format, and message serving a purpose while contributing to a larger, more coherent brand story.
